When A Partner Comments On How You Look
Remarks about appearance sit on a spectrum from preference to pressure, and the distinguishing feature is repetition combined with a cost attached to declining.

Comments about appearance are ordinary in a relationship and occasionally are not. What separates the two is not tone but whether declining has a consequence.
Preference and instruction are different sentences
Saying that a particular shirt is a favorite states a preference. Saying that you should not wear the other one issues an instruction about your own body and belongings.
Both may be delivered warmly. The difference is what happens next time you wear the other shirt, and whether that becomes a subject.
Reading the category from the words alone is unreliable. Reading it from the pattern over a month is far more accurate.
Repetition is the variable that matters
A single remark about a haircut is a remark. The same remark every week is a campaign, and campaigns change behavior even when each instance is minor.
Because each individual comment is defensible, the accumulation is difficult to raise. Objecting appears to be an overreaction to whichever comment happened to be last.
Describing the sequence rather than the instance is what makes the conversation possible: how often it comes up, and what it has already changed about what you wear.
The cost of declining tells you the most
In a workable version, you keep the shirt, the preference stays a preference, and nothing follows. Disagreement is cheap.
In the other version, declining produces coldness, a withdrawn evening or a joke in front of other people. The preference is enforced without ever being stated as a demand.
That enforcement is the part worth naming, because it is what turns a taste into a rule you are following without having agreed to it.
Weight, food and health talk
Comments framed as concern for health are the hardest to place, since the framing makes objection sound like refusing help.
Body weight and eating are areas where pressure from a partner can do real harm, and where a physician or a licensed therapist is the appropriate source of guidance rather than a person you are dating.
Concern is also testable. Genuine concern asks a question and accepts the answer, while pressure returns to the subject regardless of what was said the previous time.
What raising it is meant to accomplish
The purpose is not to win an exchange about a specific outfit. It is to find out whether the pattern stops once it is visible.
If it stops, the issue was habit. If it continues, or if objecting brings a cost, that is a pattern of control, and support services and counselors are equipped to help think it through.
Questions readers ask
Do I need permission to post a photo of my partner?
Asking takes seconds and prevents most disputes. Tagging is a separate permission, because it attaches a name and makes the image searchable.
My partner never posts about me. Should I be worried?
Not on its own, since privacy preferences vary widely. If it matters to you, say so directly rather than reading the account for evidence.
